Hoop Dreams to Book Dreams
Kellen Brandon was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. There his natural talent for basketball was nurtured and he quickly became a rising star. Though he was a rising basketball star, off the court he was writing poetry and short stories. Because of the pressures of basketball he chose not to share his writing talent with others. He decided that instead of following his true passion for writing he would stick with basketball, the talent everyone wanted him to pursue. After a collegiate basketball injury he decided that it was time to revive his writing talent. It was at this time Reflections of Drew was born. He created the character, Drew, a young man that reflects on his life in order to understand the years where he failed and people failed him. Kellen sought to create an outlet people can relate to and be able to work through everyday struggles through Drew’s reflections. What started as one author’s dream to write a book, quickly turned into a full service publishing company. This company would not only assist authors in pursuing their dreams, It would empower communities of people young and old.
Brandon Publishing was created in 2009 and is a full service publishing company that offers relief from the stress of self publishing alone, while allowing the author to keep creative control. From the success of several authors within the Brandon Publishing family, Kellen was then able to focus on creating programming to enhance and empower young writers in his community. “Create- A- Book” was born in 2011 and now services many schools and community centers within his community. Kellen Brandon has a passion for his native city of Flint and is excited to have his company based there. Brandon Publishing is not just about creating and seeing his personal dreams come true but also giving others the chance to make their dreams come true as well. “I think everyone should have the chance to act on the God given purpose. I’m just a vessel in the larger than life plan God has for us. Our goal [Brandon Publishing] is to uplift the community, by impacting human begins through passionate works of literature and performance. We will stand as humanitarians, leaders, and loving individuals and give “everyday people” the opportunity to pursue their dreams. Brandon Publishing is much more than text within books, it’s life altering concepts within hearts.” Kellen resides in Flint, MI with his daughter Amiya.
Brandon is also a dynamic speaker. He currently travels the US delivering heartfelt, enlightening, messages about his life and our lives in general. Great messages the world cannot afford to miss.
