Candid J / Impactor
Candid Brandon is an advocate for early literacy and the integration of multicultural books into school curriculums. Candid was born and raised in Flint, MI and received her high school education from Flint Central. She went on to Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA and received her B.A. in Mass Media Arts and received her M.A. in Children’s Literature from Eastern Michigan University. After co-teaching elementary school for two years, it was her experience teaching that she realized the lack of multicultural books and resources available to teachers and students. In graduate school Candid discovered the rich history of African American children’s literature and it was through her program that her mission developed into advocacy for African American children literature. She found herself becoming the go to person in her circle for suggestions and critiques of children’s books. Candid decided to open up the discourse and suggestions to the world by blogging.
Candid has also been recently hired as the Director of Brandon Publishing’s children’s division.
